Review: Calin Cafe

First impression? Charming little French-inspired cafe with wooden indoor seating and garden-view outdoor seating, suitable for a relaxing brunch with the hubby or the girls.

How’s the service? Calin Cafe staff were really alert and attentive during our visit. Those close to me would know that I’m not forgiving when it comes to service but I give credit where credit’s due. I must say I was more than impressed with the team of Calin Cafe. My hubby and I did not make any reservation and just dropped in at about 11.30 am and although they were almost fully booked, the waitress quickly got us seated. They were well mannered and well-educated about the food and drink on the menu. One staff even took precautions and approached me after we placed our orders and suggested I get my hollandaise sauce on the side of my brioche, as it was pre-seasoned with pepper, noting that I am allergic to it. Extra cookie points for her there! Plus, they kept to the French theme giving us a ‘Merci’ as we left. More cookie points!

What we ordered?

  • Brioche with Smoked Salmon, Grilled Zucchini, Poached Egg with a side of Hollandaise Sauce

VERDICT – 🙂 The brioche was light and fluffy, and the hollandaise sauce was mildly zesty and not too buttery, making this dish very delicious if you want something filling but not too rich.

  • Croque Monsieur

VERDICT – 🙂 The ham was thick and tasty, and the cheesy thick white sauce over the buttered white bread made it super scrumptious and a great choice for those who love comfort food. This dish would also be a nice easy option for those of you that are hungover.

  • Soft-boiled Egg

VERDICT – 🙂 You can order a soft-boiled egg for 20 THB, so this is a good starter option to your breakfast. But it also makes for a quick and easy option for those in a rush, coupled with a nice bit of croissant or something else from their bread selection.

  • Croissant

VERDICT – 🙂 Light and flaky, the croissant tastes good plain, and even better with a dab of jam.

  • Dark Roast Latte

VERDICT – 🙂 Tall glass of fine aromatic coffee.

What’s the damage? 400-500 THB per person

Overall experience? Food was superb, but most impressed by the staff of Calin Cafe. They have won me over and I will surely recommend this cute cafe and will be revisiting them again.

How to get there? Eight Thonglor building, Thonglor Soi 8, G Floor next to the escalator. Building has parking. Reserve a seat at 081-586-7305
